httpx

httpx is a multi-purpose HTTP toolkit from ProjectDiscovery that probes lists of hosts to see which run web services and what they return.

Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.

What it is used for

  • Filter a long list of subdomains down to live web servers
  • Collect titles, status codes and technologies at scale

Key features

  • Fast concurrent probing
  • Status, title and tech detection
  • Reads from stdin for pipelines

Installation

Install a ProjectDiscovery release binary or via Go (see the docs). On Kali Linux the package is named `httpx-toolkit` and the binary is `httpx-toolkit`, because `httpx` there is an unrelated Python HTTP client.

Beginner usage guide

Pipe hostnames from your own asset list and enable the status, title and technology flags to build a quick overview.

Example commands

Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.

Probe hosts from a file
httpx -l hosts.txt -sc -title

-l reads hostnames/URLs from a file; -sc (status-code) and -title add the HTTP status and page title to each result. Use the binary name httpx-toolkit if that is how your distribution packages it.
