Snyk

Snyk is a developer-security platform (with a free tier) that finds vulnerabilities in dependencies, code, containers and IaC.

Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.

What it is used for

  • Check a project's dependencies for known vulnerabilities
  • Get fix suggestions as pull requests

Key features

  • Open-source dependency scanning
  • Code and container scanning
  • IDE and CI integrations

Installation

Install the CLI (`npm install -g snyk`) and authenticate with an account; see the docs for current plans.

Beginner usage guide

Run a test in a project folder and apply the suggested upgrade for vulnerable packages.

Example commands

Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.
