Arkime
Arkime captures and indexes network traffic so analysts can search large packet datasets quickly.
Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.
What it is used for
- Retain and search packet metadata for incident response
- Pivot from an alert to the exact sessions that triggered it
Key features
- Indexed packet storage
- Web search interface
- Integration with Suricata and Zeek data
Installation
See arkime.com/learn and the installation guide in the repository; it needs OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
Beginner usage guide
Deploy first in a lab, import a pcap, then explore sessions via the Sessions page using expressions such as `ip.dst == 192.0.2.10`.
Example commands
Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.
Search expression example (UI)
ip.src == 192.0.2.10 && port.dst == 443Shows sessions from one host to port 443.
