NetworkMiner

NetworkMiner is a network forensic analysis tool that extracts files, images, credentials and host details from packet captures.

Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.

What it is used for

  • Recover files transferred over HTTP/FTP/SMB from a pcap
  • Build a host inventory from captured traffic

Key features

  • Parses pcap files without sending traffic
  • Extracts transferred files and certificates
  • Host and session overview

Installation

Download the free edition from netresec.com (see the product page for platform notes).

Beginner usage guide

Load a pcap from an exercise, open the Files tab to see extracted objects and the Hosts tab to review each system seen on the network.

Example commands

Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.

Typical workflow (GUI)
File → Open → select capture.pcap

Then review the Hosts, Files, Credentials and Parameters tabs.
