RustScan
RustScan is a fast port scanner written in Rust that finds open ports quickly and can hand them to Nmap for deeper analysis.
Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.
What it is used for
- Speed up the first pass of a lab or CTF enumeration
- Automatically pipe discovered ports into Nmap
Key features
- Very fast full-range port discovery
- Automatic hand-off to Nmap
- Scriptable and configurable batch size and timeout
Installation
See the project wiki for the current install options (package managers, Docker image or building with Cargo).
Beginner usage guide
Run it against one authorised host to list open ports, then let it call Nmap for service detection so you get fast discovery with detailed results.
Example commands
Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.
Scan a lab host and pass ports to Nmap
rustscan -a 192.0.2.10 -- -sVFinds open ports quickly, then runs `nmap -sV` on them. Replace the address with a host you own.
