CAPE Sandbox

CAPE is an open-source malware sandbox that executes samples in a virtual machine and extracts payloads and configuration data.

Legal & ethical use. Handling live malware is hazardous; use isolated infrastructure and legally obtained samples. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.

What it is used for

  • Run suspicious files in an isolated analysis environment
  • Extract configuration from known malware families

Key features

  • Behavioural analysis
  • Payload and config extraction
  • API and web interface

Installation

Follow the CAPEv2 documentation; it requires careful isolated infrastructure.

Beginner usage guide

Deploy only on a dedicated, isolated analysis network; submit samples you are permitted to analyse and read the generated report.

Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.
