Detect It Easy (DIE)

Detect It Easy identifies the compiler, packer or protector used to build an executable and shows file structure information.

Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.

What it is used for

  • Check whether a sample is packed before deeper analysis
  • Identify the language/toolchain of a binary

Key features

  • Signature-based detection
  • Entropy and section view
  • Scriptable signatures

Installation

Download releases from the GitHub repository.

Beginner usage guide

Open a practice executable and read the detection summary and entropy graph to decide the next analysis step.

Example commands

Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.

Workflow (GUI)
File → open sample → read detected packer/compiler
