Wazuh

Wazuh is an open-source security platform that combines log analysis, file-integrity monitoring, vulnerability detection and endpoint monitoring.

Legal & ethical use. Use this tool only on systems, networks and data that you own or have explicit written permission to test. Unauthorised access or scanning can break computer-misuse laws (for example Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, and equivalents elsewhere). Practise in your own lab or in authorised environments such as CTFs.

What it is used for

  • Collect and analyse logs from servers and workstations in a small lab SOC
  • Detect configuration changes and suspicious activity

Key features

  • Agent-based monitoring
  • Rules and decoders
  • File integrity monitoring
  • Dashboard and alerting

Installation

Follow the Wazuh quickstart in the documentation (all-in-one installer for evaluation).

Beginner usage guide

Install the manager in a lab, enrol a test agent, then trigger a known event (such as a failed login) and trace it in the dashboard.

Example commands

Run these only against your own lab or authorised targets. Placeholder addresses such as 192.0.2.x are documentation ranges.

Check the manager service
sudo systemctl status wazuh-manager

Confirms the manager is running after installation.
